A look at Black Forest Academy
Let us share a little bit with you about Black Forest Academy. This is the school where Jon will be teaching and where our children will be students. The move to Germany is also a return home, of sorts, for Joy: she was born and raised in this community and attended BFA from grades one to twelve.
Black Forest Academy is an international Christian boarding school located in Kandern, Germany. It is a home to students whose families serve and work in over 40 countries to advance the Gospel.
Part of what makes BFA such a marvellous school is how it teaches and shapes its students on a personal level and yet has effects on a global scale.
The school provides an excellent and Christ-centred education to its students. It also helps to support and enable global missions by allowing missionary families to remain in their places of ministry. Importantly, it provides a safe and supportive community for the students. To grow up not “from” your passport country, and yet not be “from” the country where your parents serve, can create a sense of cultural dislocation common to the children of missionaries—often called “third culture kids.” BFA creates a place where these young people can belong and be understood.
In order to keep the cost of tuition and board as low as possible, BFA does not pay a salary to its staff: everyone working there is a missionary living on support. This is why we are currently putting together a team of ministry partners who will support us in prayer and with their finances.
You can be a part of the forming and teaching of these students as well as the global ministry that the school enables!
Black Forest Academy also create excellent promotional material (and has a penchant for monosyllabic titles beginning with H):
